The Center for Communities by Design of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), assisted by the Orange Innovation Center, recently awarded the town of Orange a widely sought after 2009 Sustainable Design Assessment Team (SDAT) Grant.
In February ’09 the AIA brings in multidisciplinary teams. They will work with community decision-makers and stakeholders as the cap off to an intensive planning process.
SDAT provides technical assistance and expertise to help communities develop a vision, and then a tool kit to create a sustainable future in a manner that protects the environment. The process and its results fuel design solutions in the context of environmental and economic sustainability.
Wendy Johnson, Community Development Officer for the Town of Orange, prepared the grant application with the assistance of Jonathan Schwartz, Environmental Officer, Orange Innovation Center and Alec MacLeod, Environmental Scientist in residence.
